Temporal Radio
A one-screen radio for the recorded century. Turn a rotary dial to a year and it finds a recording from that
era and plays it. Temporal Radio needs JavaScript to run, and an internet connection.
Where the audio comes from
Every stream comes directly from the Internet Archive,
the Library of Congress or
Europeana. Temporal Radio hosts no
audio of its own and stores no copy of anything: it is a client that points a browser at an archive. Only
collections whose rights allow redistribution are searched — public-domain recordings, and Creative Commons
licensed work.
The century is not evenly covered
Recordings from roughly 1958 to 1994 are still in copyright and predate Creative Commons, so that stretch of
the dial is close to empty. This is a gap in the law rather than in the archive, and Temporal Radio draws it on
the dial rather than reporting it as a weak signal.
Privacy
No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party requests. Favourites and listening statistics stay in
your own browser.
